BACK TO PLAYING BALL by Mike Van Nostrand
After a brief respite to catch up on the honey do lists, we are back to playing ball. Beef
O'Brady's is back in action with a home game on most Thursdays and the summer Sun & Fun team is playing. If
you are not familiar with the summer team it is a team sponsored by our own Plantation Oaks Restaurant and is made up
of players from all five of our divisions in the winter league, along with some players new to the game. I currently
have 32 players on the roster. It makes for some fun and interesting lineups. It also makes it easier to
play in the heat when we have plenty of players. Since our Plantation summer teams have won the Summer League
Championship for the last two years the pressure is on me, the manager, to continue our winning ways. Speaking
of winning, I wish everyone in Plantation had attended our
very special Memorial Day softball game. A truly great time was had by the players, the fans, the umpires,
the announcers and the scorekeepers. We made up the rules as we played. The Red team was ahead for most of the
game until the manager of the Blue team bribed one of the umpires. Then all the calls went to the Blue team, and then
the managers argued, egged on by the fans and on and on it went until everybody was too hot and tired and happy to continue.
All in good clean fun of course. So come on down to the ball field a watch a game. As of this writing, Beef
O'Brady's has a scheduled game on July 1. Sun & Fun is on a short break the beginning of July and will resume with
home games on July 13, 23 and 30. See
you at the ball field.
