8 Ball - “Better late than never”

It was another exciting playoff/championship. The 2009 8 Ball Travel League playoff/championship was hosted by the
Plantation Manatees on March 31, 2009 at Ashley Hall. The top 4 finishers of the 10 team league qualified to compete. Two
playoff matches were played to determine the teams who would play for the championship. Each match was a race to 14, with
the following results.
Playoff
match 1.
Participants
were Royal Highland’s Gators and Highland Lake’s
Patriots was won by the Patriots. It was a hard fought match which was determined on the 27th (last) game. Score
14 – 13.
Playoff
match 2.
Participants
were the Plantation Manatees and the Pennbrook Panthers was won by the Manatees. Score of 14 to 7.
Championship.
The
winner of match 1 the Patriots and the winner of match 2 the Manatees played. Again this match took 27 games to determine
the winner which was the Manatees. Score 14 – 13.
All
were tough matches and could have gone to any team. In all, it was a great and fun season. In addition to the communities
which participated in the playoffs, other teams which participate in the league are: Hawthorne,
King’s Ridge and Spanish Village.
In
the Plantation Manatees 10 year history, the Manatees have finished first 10 times and have won the championship 9 times.
The 2009 team members are Bill Moy (captain), Francis Hayes (co-captain), Frank
Del Castillo, Cleetus Roedel, Ron Talley, Charlie Henry, Tony Roberts and Joe Cioffi.
