Writers Guild meets every Friday from 9:30 a.m. until noon in the Craft Room of The Manor.
Announcements and business are first. Then members read their recent work for critiques by fellow writers. Following the meeting,
members adjourn to Plantation Oaks for lunch and socializing. We also welcome readers and editors who just enjoy listening
to the writers' readings and joining in on the critiques.

November 2011 News from the Writers Guild:
The Writers Guild’s next outreach event is coming soon! We will present another program
of readings and music at Leesburg Public Library as we did so successfully last April. Our 2011 Holiday Tales will be at 2
pm on Saturday, December 10. Mark the day on your calendar now and join us for some holiday nostalgia and humor.
Our newly-published 2011 GuildSong is available right now. The book features selected
writings from Writers Guild members. It’s a beautiful book with photos, illustrations, and biographies of the authors.
Last year we sold out of the 2010 GuildSong three times! So get yours now while we have lots on hand. GuildSong
also makes a nice gift for birthdays and other special days. Cost is just $12 a copy. Call Joyce Halvorsen at 365-4395 or Dell French at 728-6818 to purchase your copy of GuildSong,
or buy your GuildSong from any member of the Writers Guild.
Writers Guild meets and critiques every Friday from 9:30 am until noon in the Craft Room of The

Call Ruth Williams at 323-4805 for information about Writers Guild.

Some
members of the Writers Guild caught at the end of a meeting— Kathy Berry, behind her in the back row: Steve Matava,
Don Polly, Vicki Rezen, Hoyt Berry, Don Tsolo, Don Shaper, Ruth Williams, Cheryl Berrington. Seated: Ann Fuller, Dell French,
Kay Stevens, Joyce Halvorsen, Beverly Shaper, Bobbie James.
There are several published
authors in the Plantation Writers Guild, and several more nearing publication.
Not everyone
writes for general distribution. Several of the members of the group are writing legacies, stories of their lives and times
designed for limited publication. These authors will publish their work for their families and friends, not for mass circulation.
Others are working on poetry or short story collections for limited publication to sell at festivals and literary shows, or
to family and friends. The Plantation Writers Guild meets every Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 12 noon at The Craft
Room in The Manor. Lunch at Plantation Oaks follows each meeting.
Readers, writers, and listeners are welcome. The
meeting starts with a general discussion on writing, writers, local bookstores, writing conferences, writing contests, or
any other topic related to writing. Then those who have done some writing read their work aloud and the group critiques it.
Members give each other a lot of support in their writing efforts, and everyone enjoys the casual, comfortable atmosphere.
Join us next Friday.

Lovadell French
Dell
is finished with her mystery novel,Where’s Eddie, and polishing it for publication.
Where’s
Eddie?
Where is Eddie? Five months after
a disastrous accident in the wilds of the Cascade Mountains in western Washington State,
Mckenzie McMurray has been unable to accept her husband’s death. She regressed into denial as she recuperated from the
accident in her childhood home, the town’s fabled Ghost House, with her grandfather, G Mac.
Then she starts a new job
and meets a man who resembles Eddie. Both seem too good to be true. They are. A strange set of events begin to rip apart her
world. She has to “find Eddie.” In doing that, she is invaded not only by her childhood spirit friend, Widow Mary,
but by real people like Kurt Williams, Beth, and the Jones Attorneys.
At
the same time, Dell is working on an autobiography.
From
Limeades to Margaritas
Life’s sweet memories,
seasoned with a dip of acidity, inspired my memoir, From Limeades to Margarita. I became friends with Dick, Jane, Spot and
Aristotle as well as others as I grew up. I attended eleven different schools and lived in forty-four houses in all parts
of our country. As a teenager I drank limeades instead of cokes. At the age of thirty, I had my first alcoholic beverage;
I was again drawn to Limeades. How could I not be acerbic in my Memoirs?

Ruth McIntyre-Williams
Ruth
has published two novels, Clovenstone and Stones Seven, and is working on a third novel for her adventure series,
Clovenstone Chronicles.
Ah, Clovenstone! The mystical,
mythical ancient stone of power that gives the right to rule Kildonan. But it’s not that easy. You must hold one of
the Seven Stones to even hope for power. Is there really a Clovenstone? Where are the Seven Stones?
An herbalist, a couple
of magicians, an elf, an out-of-work professional warrior, a poetic bard, and a deposed king fall in together and form a troupe
of traveling performers, the Nonesuch Players. The Players wander Kildonan giving shows in villages and castles for vegetables,
chickens, small coins—and tales that are told. They seek to prove the ancient prophecies and rule the land. They are
trapped on a burning ship, stranded in flooding caves, lost in sucking swamps, attacked by ogres and night creatures. Can
they all survive? Will they ever rule Kildonan?

books are available at Amazon.com and other online book companies, can be ordered at any bookstore, or can be bought

Joyce Halvorsen
Joyce
has just published a book of poetry entitled Seasons of the Heart.
This book of poetry's theme is seasons
of the year. Each chapter in the book is therefore a distinct "Season.”
I have added a few photographs to accent the chapter changes. Readers may find a bit of themselves in the poetry, as I have
written about times and places familiar to many people. So even if you have never seen snow, for example, it is my hope that
my winter poems have described to the mind the Season as fully as a painting would to the sight.
My next book, Ghost Dancer, is a book of
short stories centered in South Dakota around the early 1950s. The main
character is Charlie Singletree, of the Lakota tribe, the largest of the great Teton Sioux nations. His life revolves around the ancient traditions, and he is torn between the life he has chosen in the stark
outback of South Dakota, and the life he could have in the
outside world, the world of the whites. His brother Tom has chosen the outside
life. Charlie becomes bitter when his Tante (Aunt) Star Flower (the tribe's honored medicine woman) is found dead of unknown
causes. He feels that he has become estranged from his brother and must make
amends. But there are a series of ghostly apparitions that haunt Charlie.
The book is about the traditions of
the Lakota tribe and their values. It is also a fictional account of ghosts who
rule the great stories of the tribe.
It is with pleasure that Joyce Halvorsen announces the publication of two
new books: "Dreams and Dilemmas: Stories from the Shadows" (this is a compilation of 9 short suspense/mystery/historical
fiction stories). The book is available from Joyce Halvorsen. If you would like to see an advanced copy, call her.
The last book is "Voices of the Seasons" is a poetry book and is also available by request through the author --
Call Joyce at 365-4395 or e-mail her at tomjoy9@comcast.net

Stephen P. Matava
Steve has published two historical novels, Legacy of a Priest and Legacy
of a Dream. He is presently working on a murder mystery.
Legacy of a Priest
The novel begins in a small town in Slovakia. The time was 1849 when the
power of the Roman Catholic Church was declining. A young priest was sent to a broken-down abbey to restore the influence
of the church. He started the building process, when he finds a newborn baby boy on the church steps. Thus begins the tale
of the Janek family. The priest raises the boy in the abbey and prepares him for the priesthood. But the boy falls in love
with a woman whose parents own a horse farm. The women becomes pregnant, and the young man leaves the abbey and marries her.
They have five sons and one daughter. The book tells of life in the small country, the problems, the loves and desires of
this and future generations. The family works hard. The oldest son decides to leave his place of birth and go to America where he can find a better life.
Legacy of a Dream
This is a sequel to the novel above. The sons of Johan Janek came to America
and settled in the small town of Cohoes, New York.
The oldest sailed across the ocean first, and saved his money so he could bring the rest of the family over. Work was hard
in the textile mills. With broken families all around them, the Janeks began their lives in poverty. But they kept their family
together and prospered. This is a story of loyalty, devotion, and sacrifice for the good of the children. They educated their
children and the sons went to war for their adopted country. They dealt with the tragedy when one son did not return home
and they bonded together in support of each other. It is a tale of family values carried across the ocean and instilled in
the children of future generations.
Two new novels are due to be released in January: Tatra Conspiracy and Grissom's Inferno.
Steve’s books are available at Amazon.com and other online bookstores. They also can be ordered from any
bookstore, or be bought from Steve.
