WOODWORKERS GROUP

By now, we all know that the Woodworkers group at The Plantation has 'SAWDUST' in their veins.

MISSION STATEMENT:

The Plantation Woodworkers is a club in the Plantation at Leesburg active adult community, located in Leesburg Florida, whose stated purpose is to provide a community venue, for its members, to engage in social and voluntary activities related to the recreational hobby of woodworking and to share with other members, skills and techniques related to the woodworking craft.

The exact location of the Woodshop:


From Plantation, Blvd turn onto Glenn Eagle to Belle Grove and make a right onto Belle Grove, make a left onto
D' Estrehan to Belle Helene. Make a left onto Belle Helene and go to the end where you will see a driveway between two rows of bushes. (this is the entrance to the RV parking area). Go down the drive and you will see the building standing by itself at the entrance to the RV storage area.

Shop Rules, Entry, and Leaving Procedures:

THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO SUPPORT OUR OBJECTIVES OF CREATING AND MAINTAINING A SAFE, SECURE, AND USER-FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE IN OUR WORKSHOP.

ADMITTANCE, CODE NUMBER, AND PERMISSION TO WORK WITH EQUIPMENT SHALL BE GRANTED UNDER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:

  1. DUES PAID IN FULL
  2. BEEN CERTIFIED IN EQUIPMENT SAFETY
  3. AN UP-TO-DATE WAIVER SIGNED ON FILE
  4. A SECOND PERSON IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED TO BE WITH A MEMBER. THIS PERSON MUST BE AT LEAST 16 YEARS OF AGE, AND MAY NOT USE ANY POWER EQUIPMENT IF NOT A MEMBER.
  5. MUST MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO USE DUST & AIR COLLECTION. VACUUM CLEANERS SHOULD BE CONNECTED TO TOOLS WITH DUST COLLECTION PORTS.
  6. SIGNED IN WHEN ENTERING THE BUILDING AND SIGNED OUT WHEN LEAVING.

WHEN ENTERING THE BUILDING:

  1. PRINT YOUR NAME IN THE SIGN-IN BOOK WITH THE TIME YOU ENTERED AND THE EQUIPMENT YOU ARE USING.
  2. ADJUST HVAC THERMOSTAT AS NEEDED / TURN ON BOTH CEILING AIR CLEANERS
  3. WHEN USING THE DUST COLLECTOR SYSTEM REMEMBER TO OPEN THE GATE FOR THE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT YOU ARE USING BEFORE TURNING ON THE VACUUM.

EQUIPMENT SAFETY IS OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE, MEMBERS SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES & HEARING PROTECTION WHEN WORKING EQUIPMENT.  KEEP YOUR HANDS (FINGERS) AWAY FROM CUTTING EDGES OF MACHINES AND PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING –STAY FOCUSED! BE CAREFUL IF YOU ARE ON MEDICATIONS. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING UNSAFELY CORRECT THEM, AND USE TACT.  EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE UNPLUGGED WHEN NOT IN USE.

  • EVERYTHING HAS A LIFESPAN! IF SOMETHING BREAKS WHILE YOU ARE USING IT LET US KNOW SO IT CAN BE REPLACED OR REPAIRED.  IF IT WAS YOUR MISTAKE REMUNERATION MAY BE AN OPTION DISCUSSED.  MATERIALS USED BY MEMBERS FOR PERSONAL PROJECTS SHOULD BE REPLACED, I.E. SANDPAPER, NAILS, SCREWS, WOOD ETC. BY EITHER PUTTING MONEY IN THE DONATION BOX OR REPLACING WHAT WAS USED.
  • TABLE SAW: IF YOU USE THE TABLE SAW, (1) TURN ON THE DUST REMOVER CONNECTED TO THE SAW. (2) PLUG THE SAW IN THEN FLIP THE SWITCH UP, WHEN THE RED LIGHT GOES OFF AND THE GREEN REMAINS ON. YOU CAN THEN PULL THE RED PADDLE WHEN YOU ARE READY TO USE THE SAW. REMEMBER TO CHECK THE WOOD, DO NOT CUT IF IT IS WET, PRESSURE TREATED, OR HAS NAILS, SCREWS, OR STAPLES IN IT. STOP THE SAW OPERATION WITH A RED PADDLE THEN SWITCH IT OFF AND THEN PULL THE PLUG. REMEMBER TO FLIP THE SWITCH OFF FOR THE DUST REMOVER, THE SAME GOES FOR THE AIR COMPRESSOR IF IT WAS USED.

 CLEANLINESS: KEEP YOUR AREA CLEAN AND SAFE TO AVOID ACCIDENTS.  WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED WORKING THE AREA, EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE VACUUMED AND CLEANED.  MAKE SURE ALL TOOLS ARE RETURNED TO THEIR PROPER STORAGE PLACE SO THAT THE NEXT WORKER CAN FIND THEM.

  •  IF YOU WISH TO BORROW A HAND TOOL FILL OUT AN INDEX CARD WITH WHAT YOU ARE TAKING AND PLACE IT IN THE BORROW RACK. HAND TOOLS ONLY MAY BE BORROWED FOR A MAXIMUM OF ONE WEEK AT A TIME. USE COMMON SENSE, IF THE TOOL IS CONSTANTLY USED BY MEMBERS RETURN IT ASAP AND PUT THE DATE RETURNED ON THE INDEX CARD.
  • YOU MAY WORK ALONE IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE TABLE, CHOP, BAND SAWS, OR LATHES BUT BE CAREFUL AND REMEMBER YOU ARE ASSUMING ALL RISKS BY WORKING ALONE.
  • FAILURE TO FOLLOW SHOP RULES:
    • The first offense, the member will be sent a letter of reprimand outlining the offense and may be required to retake the shop safety course.
    • For the second offense, the member will be sent a letter of reprimand outlining the offense and will have shop privileges suspended for 30 days.
    • For the third offense, the member will be sent a letter of reprimand outlining the offense and will have shop privileges suspended for 60 days.
    • The fourth offense, the member’s membership in the Club will be terminated pending the vote of the Board.

WHEN LEAVING THE BUILDINGS

  1. PULL PLUGS ON ALL EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT DAMAGE BY POWER SURGE
  2. SIGN MACHINE USAGE BOARD
  3. ADJUST THERMOSTAT –
  

       I.            Summer- Set Temperature At 84

      II.            Winter- Set Temperature At 60

     III.            Fan Should Be on the Auto

       4. TURN OFF THE LIGHTS!!!  NOTE: THE SHOP AIR FILTRATION UNITS WILL GO OFF AS WELL. THE TRAILER AIR                       FILTER NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF.
       5. SIGN OUT IN THE BOOK WITH THE TIME YOU ARE LEAVING 
       6. LIGHTS OUT & LOCK DOORS (TEST THE DOOR TO MAKE SURE IT IS LOCKED)
       7. IF THE SHED DOOR WAS USED MAKE SURE IT IS LOCKED AS WELL
